Stop Global Warming

Kauai Trip 2007 3/31/07 to 4/08/07

In the Island of Kauai, I went to several beaches, snorkeled, attempted to surf, saw the Waimea Canyon (nicknamed the Grand Canyon of the Pacific), went kayaking to a waterfall, and hiked the Napali Coast Trail. The temperature was high 70s during the day and mid 60s at night. While it rains a lot in Kauai, experts say when the weather is good, nothing beats the weather. The weather was nice the whole time I was there.

The following several pictures are on the Napali Coast Trail. My brother, his wife, and I hiked 11 miles from Ke'e Beach to Kalalau Beach. Then we camped overnight and hiked back the following day. The weather was nice and trail was dry for us although often, it can rain and the trail becomes very slippery and muddy. The hike offered spectular views of the Kauai coastline (several movies have been filmed there). The mile long Kalalau Beach offered many sites to camp. Between miles 6 and 8, the trail has its most dramatic section, with a narrow and uneven trail with severe dropoff into the ocean. You can try to make out the trail in some of the pictures below. For gear, sunscreen was required. The sun can get very hot. The water contains leptospirosis so bring a water filter and drops to treat water and/or stove to boil water. And bring a camera for the spectacular views!
