We hiked up the Whiteface in the White Mountains of New Hampshire (not to be confused with other peaks named whiteface). The weather was warm for winter with no wind. We start at Ferncroft Rd parking area and continued up the Blueberry Ledge Trail. The trail was broken out and I barebooted it to start, but some of our group had snowshoes. After the halfway point, the trail got steeper and it was necessary to have crampons or snowshoes (I used crampons). Then we continued climbing up the trail, which gradually got steeper as it went over a few ledges. The view was a little cloudy with limited visibility at this time. After we got to the Rollins Trail we continued onto the summit and by the time we were descending the weather cleared up and we got great views. We stopped for lunch, although I accidentally stepped on my camera with my crampons (not a good thing to do). Then we descended down the ledges. Once past the ledges, I took off the crampons and glissaded down the steep sections. Afterwards, we continued on back to the cars. Also, I was glad I carpooled, because the road to the parking has many frost heaves and could easily wear out a suspension or two. A great day for a hike!
